Hartington Hall Wedding Photography with Hannah & Craig. I first met Hannah & Craig when I shot Hannah’s sister Rebecca’s wedding at Chatsworth House back in 2017. So I was thrilled when they got in touch with me and we chatted about their Hartington Hall wedding photography ideas. Living in Australia and planning a wedding back in the UK was always going to be a challenge, but this couple was super laid back and enjoyed every moment.
The sun was out and shining as I drove through the countryside to Hartington Hall, I met up with Craig who was busy preparing seating and decorations for the couple’s outdoor ceremony. Hannah was up in ‘The Roost’ the purpose-built bridal suite, she was having great fun with her family and bridal party. It was ace to spend a bit of time with both the bride and groom on the morning of the wedding, each getting ready and having a laugh with their friends and family.

The sun was shining as everyone made their final touches to their outfits, drinks were toasted and the wedding guests made their way over to the ceremony area. Hannah, her dad and her bridesmaids made their way from ‘The Roost’ and down the side aisle to Craig. After a lovely ceremony filled with laughter, poems and a few tears, the couple made their way down the steps and through a flurry of confetti, smiling all the way
Drinks In The Sunshine
Whilst enjoying drinks in the gardens of the hall, Hannah & Craig were congratulated by family and friends with massive hugs and kisses. The drinks reception is one of my favorite times of the wedding day, it gives me a chance to blend into the guests and capture moments that really mean the most to my couples. Usually, during this time, emotions are running high, especially for close family and there are often great moments of laughter, joy and love and I do my very best to get close to the action. It was during the drinks reception, we paused for some family groups but kept them fun and informal which is always the best thing to do.
Portraits In The Derbyshire Countryside
Being a wedding venue up in the hills of the beautiful Derbyshire countryside, Hartington Hall is surrounded by country lanes, grasslands, and woods. Knowing that the forecast was great for the day and evening, we planned to have a wander around before the wedding breakfast and then spent 10 more minutes during the golden hour to really nail some amazing portraits of the couple. Keeping portraits fun and informal is really key to how I work, allowing people to really be themselves will create a truly memorable set of photos.
Australia And Gin Themed Wedding Breakfast
Hannah & Craig had lived in Australia for a few years prior to their wedding so that was an essential part of their wedding breakfast theme, along with colorful and unique bottles of gin and wildflowers. They were welcomed into their wedding breakfast after Hannah’s brother-in-law Tom got a bit overly excited when banging a knife against a fragile wine glass, which of course sent all the guests into fits of laughter. Everyone then enjoyed a round of speeches before settling in for a delicious meal with good company.
Pre-Party Drinks In The Gardens
Being a warm summer evening, the guests made their way out into the gardens of the hall to enjoy drinks before the evening party began. We managed to grab a few more portraits in the amazing setting sun, Hannah & Craig being amazing by scaling a stone wall to get into some lovely grassland. Wandering back to the hall, the couple stopped to greet their evening guests and enjoy more hugs of congratulations.
Brad Matthews Wedding Singer
Hannah & Craig soon cut their amazing wedding cake and took to the dance floor to perform their first dance with wedding singer Brad Matthews providing the entertainment. They were soon joined by family and friends who spent the rest of the night laughing, dancing and having a ball.
So Huge Congratulations to Hannah & Craig, a fun-loving couple that truly enjoyed every single part of their day. A bride that didn’t stop smiling & laughing and a groom that took it all in his stride! Also, Massive Thanks to your family and friends who made me feel so welcome, thanks so much for having me with you as your Hartington Hall wedding photographer.
About Hartington Hall
Hartington Hall was constructed in 1611 by the Bateman family, who originated from South Wingfield in the east of the county and who gained the manor of Hartington after the Reformation. Thomas Bateman, the 19th-century antiquarian, was a member of a junior branch of this family, who were major landowners in the area for several centuries. Although built in the time of James I, the design of the building is classically Elizabethan, in an ‘E’ shape. Although there are some Victorian additions, the original part of the Hall is still very largely intact.
