About Their Day

A Summer Victoria Baths Wedding
Some wedding venues are beautiful. Others are unforgettable. Victoria Baths in Manchester firmly belongs in the second category. With its spectacular architecture, colourful glazed tiles, rich history and wonderfully preserved Victorian character, it is unlike anywhere else in the UK. Every room offers something different, making it an incredible setting for couples looking for a wedding that feels completely unique.
Helen and Mahinda’s summer celebration was a perfect reflection of the venue itself. Full of personality, creativity, culture and heartfelt moments, their day brought together family and friends from different backgrounds for a wedding that was joyful from beginning to end. From handcrafted ales and Sri Lankan cuisine to theatrical performances and a lively Ceilidh, every detail reflected who they are as a couple.
It was a wonderful example of why a Victoria Baths Wedding is such a memorable experience.

A Ceremony in the Gala Pool Hall
The ceremony took place inside the magnificent Gala Pool Hall, one of the most iconic spaces within Victoria Baths.
Originally built as a swimming pool, the hall has been carefully adapted into an extraordinary ceremony space while retaining its historic character. The soaring ceiling, beautiful balconies and distinctive architectural details create an atmosphere unlike any conventional wedding venue.
As guests gathered, there was an immediate sense that this ceremony would be something special.
Helen walked into the Gala Pool Hall to huge smiles from family and friends before joining Mahinda at the front of the room.
Their ceremony was full of laughter, emotion and beautifully personalised readings that reflected both their personalities and their journey together.
There were tears during the more heartfelt moments, bursts of laughter throughout the readings and enormous applause as they were finally announced husband and wife.
Every Victoria Baths Wedding benefits from the incredible atmosphere of this remarkable space. It combines grandeur with intimacy in a way that few venues can achieve.

Drinks Reception in the Turkish Baths
Following the ceremony, guests made their way into the beautifully restored Turkish Baths for the drinks reception.
This is one of the most distinctive reception spaces in the country. Rich colours, intricate detailing and Victorian architecture provide an unforgettable backdrop for guests to relax and celebrate.
Helen and Mahinda wanted the reception to reflect both of their personalities and Mahinda’s Sri Lankan heritage.
They had brewed their own selection of ales especially for the wedding, giving guests something wonderfully personal to enjoy.
Alongside the drinks, guests were served delicious Sri Lankan-inspired canapés, introducing many people to flavours they had never experienced before. It was a thoughtful way of celebrating Mahinda’s culture while creating a memorable experience for everyone attending.
This level of personalisation is exactly what makes a Victoria Baths Wedding so special. The venue provides an extraordinary setting while allowing couples complete freedom to create a celebration that truly reflects them.

Couple Portraits Throughout the Historic Building
Once guests had settled into the reception, Helen and Mahinda slipped away for their portraits.
Photographing at Victoria Baths is always an exciting experience because every corner offers another incredible backdrop.
We began inside the Gala Pool, making full use of its impressive scale and dramatic architecture.
From there we explored the famous Art Deco tiled walls, whose vibrant colours and geometric patterns provide some of the most recognisable features within the building.
The upstairs rooms offered something completely different. Rustic textures, weathered walls and beautiful window light created intimate portraits that contrasted perfectly with the grandeur downstairs.
The variety available during a Victoria Baths Wedding is extraordinary. Without leaving the building it is possible to create an incredibly diverse collection of images, each with its own distinctive feel.
The venue allows couples to enjoy portraits that are elegant, artistic, contemporary and timeless all within the same location.

A Family Style Wedding Breakfast
The wedding breakfast took place in the spacious Sports Hall. The room had been beautifully decorated with colourful fresh florals, adding warmth and vibrancy to the historic surroundings.
Each table was named after one of Helen and Mahinda’s favourite places around the world, encouraging guests to share travel stories and memories throughout the meal.
Large sharing dishes were placed in the centre of each table, encouraging guests to serve one another while naturally starting conversations. It proved to be one of the most enjoyable parts of the day.
A Victoria Baths Wedding provides couples with the flexibility to create dining experiences that feel completely personal, and this was a perfect example.
Choosing cheese instead of a traditional wedding cake was another wonderful reflection of their personalities and was greeted with plenty of smiles from their guests.
The celebrations then took on an even more meaningful cultural element. Mahinda’s mum had lovingly prepared a traditional Sri Lankan Love Cake.
She fed pieces of the cake to both Helen and Mahinda, following a long-standing tradition believed to bring happiness, prosperity and good fortune throughout married life.
It was a beautiful moment that highlighted the importance of family and heritage within the day.

Evening Speeches in the Gala Pool
As evening guests arrived, everyone returned to the magnificent Gala Pool.
Rather than holding the speeches during the meal, Helen and Mahinda chose to gather everyone together later in the day.
The speeches were heartfelt, humorous and filled with wonderful stories that perfectly captured the couple’s journey together.
One of the most memorable surprises followed shortly afterwards when several of the couple’s theatrical friends performed a song especially for them.
The acoustics of the Gala Pool Hall created an incredible atmosphere and the performance became one of the standout moments of the entire wedding.

Dancing the Night Away
Returning to the Sports Hall, Helen and Mahinda shared their first dance surrounded by family and friends.
The room quickly filled with applause before guests joined the newlyweds on the dance floor.
The celebrations then stepped up another level as the Ceilidh band began to play. Within moments, guests of every age were joining in the traditional group dances.
The room was filled with laughter as everyone attempted the different steps together, creating exactly the kind of joyful, unscripted moments that make wedding photography so rewarding.
The evening perfectly reflected the entire day; relaxed, welcoming, personal & completely unforgettable.
