Weddings At Holmes Mill
On one of the hottest days of the year, Lauren and Richard tied the knot in an unforgettable September celebration at Holmes Mill in Clitheroe. As a wedding photographer, it’s always a pleasure to shoot in a venue as rich in texture and history as Holmes Mill. But what made this day truly exceptional was the infectious joy of the couple, the thoughtful details infused into every element of the day, and the incredible atmosphere from morning to night.

Prep In The Spinning Block
Their wedding at Holmes Mill began at The Spinning Block Hotel, just a stone’s throw from the main venue. Lauren and Richard chose to get ready in separate rooms, adding a lovely sense of anticipation to the morning. Lauren’s room buzzed with excitement as she had her makeup done by the talented Cheshire Bridal Make Up team. Her dress, from The Aisle Bridal, was the epitome of elegance, perfectly complemented by her vibrant bouquet of colourful seasonal blooms arranged by Winter And The Willows.

Meanwhile, Richard and his groomsmen prepped in their suite with relaxed energy, dressed sharply in suits from Groom Formal. Spirits were high as guests began arriving at the Cotton Room for the ceremony—a space that offers a beautiful blend of industrial charm and contemporary design. The room had been transformed with colourful, music-themed decor that reflected the couple’s shared passion for sound and song.

Cotton Room Wedding Ceremony
The wedding ceremony in the Cotton Room was full of emotion, with natural light pouring in and bouncing off exposed brick and timber beams. Their vows were heartfelt and personal, met with a chorus of happy tears and laughter from family and friends. As they walked back down the aisle as husband and wife, the love and warmth in the room were palpable.

Luke McColl Music
Back in the Cotton Room, the space had been turned around beautifully for the wedding breakfast. The vibrant table decor, nodding again to their musical tastes, gave the room a playful, festival-like vibe. Catering was provided by the ever-impressive Stableyard Catering, serving up a feast that had guests raving. Between courses, Luke McColl treated everyone to a live music set that had people up on their feet before dessert was even served. It was one of those rare weddings where the energy never dipped even during the meal.

Chasing The Sun At Clitheroe Castle
Later in the evening, I took Lauren and Richard up to Clitheroe Castle ( a walk not for the faint-hearted!) for some golden hour portraits. The light was spectacular, casting a warm, romantic glow over the town. With panoramic views and the soft sunset behind them, it was a perfect, peaceful moment away from the buzz of the day—a chance for them to just be together.

Party In The Cotton Room
As night fell, the Cotton Room was ready once more this time set for dancing. The band, booked via Entertainment Nation, brought infectious energy that kept the dance floor full all night. The vibe was electric, fuelled by great music, even better company, and the heady warmth of a late summer’s night.

ABOUT HOLMES MILL
Based in the heart of Clitheroe, Holmes Mill is a unique celebration of Lancashire food, drink, and entertainment. Featuring a beer hall, hotel, food hall and much more, this former textiles mill is the perfect place to indulge, unwind and explore.
An early 19th Century Cotton Mill rescued from decay and destruction and transformed into the most incredible and wholly unique wedding venue in the North West. The ambitious restoration project has taken over three years to complete but what a restoration it has been. They’ve kept as many of the original features as possible to create a space that wears its bumps and bruises with pride.
The disused complex is now home to the Bowland Brewery, and it’s simply an amazing Beer Hall. There’s a Food Hall focusing on the finest local produce and a fabulous 39-bedroom hotel in the old Spinning Block.
The Cotton Room at Holmes Mill is fully licensed for civil ceremonies and looks stunning set with our reclaimed cinema seating. We can accommodate up to 150 guests for your civil ceremony and 180 guests for your evening reception.
